David Tower Jerusalem

The David Tower Museum is one of the most popular museums in Israel and maybe the most important one.

Recently we lunch the brand new Drupal 8 website, a big and amazing E-Commerce website which help the museum sell tickets to a variety of events, products, agents area for bulk tickets sale and management. All these great features come along with a real-time, two side integration, to Toptix.

However, like all business out there, the Coronavirus effected David Museum as well and the client needed to adapt.

I have already written about the advantage of using Drupal as a CMS for your site, but the advantage is even larger during the Corona period. Let me share with you some of the great things we achieved with the client, modifying and adapting the site to fetch the business needs.

Events | Let's make them online!

Using the site to keep the users in one place was the main target. So we added an option for users to purchase an online event and here are the main features:

  • The Video Recording page can be a stand-alone product page.
  • An event can have a relation to a Video recording page/s.
  • Only when there is an Online Event type in the cart there is a register/login process, integrated to a 3rd party newsletter. Also, setting up notifications for the whole process.
  • A user can access his purchased Video Recording pages through his user zone.

How about no payment events?

We also required to add an option allowing the user to register to an online event, only this time it's a free event.

This sounds easy, right?

Well.. not that easy since you need to:

  • Create a new integration to priority for only ordering and not payment (to keep ticketing system works as usual).
  • The checkout process should be different since the user isn’t paying.
  • When the user adds an event/product to the cart which he needs to pay for, the process changes again.

Video Recordings as a stand-alone product

Incase you kept reading so far, you know Video recordings are available for the users that buys an "Online event". However, we also added the option for the user to purchase a stand-alone Video recording and enjoy watching it live on the site.

The Video Recording product page, in case it’s a stand-alone product will allow watching the video only after payment is complete. We manage two types of Video recording product page - One which is attached to an event and one which is a stand alone (And yes, a page can be both!).

We strongly believe in creating a website that can grow with the business and therefore using Drupal helps us architect a best practice website that is flexible to almost every need.
